Poster activism

On August 4, 2020, one of the world’s biggest-ever, non-nuclear explosions destroyed much of Beirut’s port and devastated swaths of the capital.
The blast was caused by a fire in a warehouse which Lebanese authorities admit held a vast stockpile of ammonium nitrate for six years.
The huge explosion left more than 200 dead, and more than 6,500 injured. Some 300,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.
The tragedy hit Lebanon as the country was mired in its worst economic crisis in decades, with its currency plummeting, massive layoffs and drastic banking restrictions.

In the diaspora, I felt helpless in the face of this tragedy and had an urge to act.
I thought of doing awareness posters that could help raise funds for the Lebanese red cross and other organisations active in the region.
I, then, hung the posters with a help of a friend on the shop windows of  lebanese grocery stores and restaurants in Brussels.

The posters went viral, and other Lebanese expatriates wanted to participate in the action by printing and posting the posters in their countries of residence.
These posters were pasted on the windows of Lebanese restaurants in Antwerp, Paris, Lisbon, Arizona, Brooklyn.
